Three Bishops Elected For The A.M.E. Zion Church!
The delegates to the 49th Quadrennial of the General Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church elected three bishops in a late night election process. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, two of the three bishops elect came from the Piedmont Episcopal District.

Dr. W. Darin Moore became the 99th bishop in succession after the first couple of ballots when the voting began. Dr. Moore is the pastor of Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in the Northeast Episcopal District. Next up, Dr. Seth Lartey became the 100th bishop-elect in succession. Dr. Lartey, is pastor of Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in the Piedmont Episcopal District.

After a number of ballots where the requisite number of votes needed to fill the final remaining open episcopacy position had not been attained, it looked like the conference was in for a long night. But in a surprising, yet, magnanimous gesture, Dr. George Crenshaw, a candidate for the open position along with Reverend Dr. Michael A. Frencher, Sr.,withdrew his name for consideration. This opened the way for Dr. Frencher to attain the requisite number of votes and ascend to the episcopacy as the 101st bishop-elect in succession.

With the final opening position filled, the Board of Bishop is now complete and set for the next four years. All that’s left to do relative to implementation is the report of the Episcopal Committee and the Consecration Service slated for Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2012.
