Summer Freshman Academy - Classes Start June 26, 2012
Incoming freshmen now have the opportunity to jumpstart their college career. After five weeks of intense study, new freshmen will complete six hours of academic course work selected from the Livingstone College general education curriculum.

In addition to earning academic credit, students enrolled in the Freshman Academy will:
  • Have the chance to adapt to college life and interact on a more intimate basis with faculty and staff.

  • Attend a College Experience class one day per week and have an opportunity to test out of College Skills (GED 110) in the fall and earn an additional one hour of credit.

  • Learn to master the study skills needed to be a successful college student.

  • Earn a $1500 scholarship towards tuition and fees if enrolled in Livingstone College in the fall.

  • Enjoy extracurricular and cultural activities designed to enhance integration into college life.

Who is Eligible for the Summer Freshman Academy?

Students who:
  • Desire an early start to their college career.

  • Have met all high school graduation requirements by June 20, 2012.

  • Have been admitted to Livingstone College for the 2012 fall semester.

What Courses will be Offered?

Students may choose two classes from the list below:
CIS 130
Computers in Society 3 Hours
ENG 131
Freshman Composition I 3 Hours
MAT 133
College Math I 3 Hours
SPA 131
Spanish I 3 Hours

All classes will begin Tuesday, June 26 and will end Friday, July 27, 2012.


Why is the College Experience Class Required?

The College Experience class is essential for academic success.

Freshmen enrolled in College Experience will:
  • Meet with advisors and plan for the upcoming fall semester.

  • Learn valuable study skills.

  • Become familiarized with all college services and resources.

  • Learn important information as it relates to Livingstone College.

Students enrolled in the College Experience class will have the option of testing out of GED 110 College Skills after registering for the 2012 fall semester.


What are the Enrollment Requirements?


Students must:
  • Submit an official final high school transcript.

  • Have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or better.

  • Submit two letters of recommendations from the high school counselor, teacher and/or site administrator.

  • Submit a Summer Freshman Academy Application.

  • Have taken the SAT or ACT.

What is the Cost?

Tuition (6 hrs. ) and Fees $1650
Housing and Meals $1060
Confirmation Fee* (non-refundable) $300

*The Confirmation Fee includes the orientation fee and the housing deposit for the 2012-2013 academic year.

When can I move into the residence hall?

Students may move into the residence hall on Sunday, June 24, 2012 and will be required to move out on Friday July 27, 2012.

Is Financial Aid Available?

Students may be eligible for Federal Pell Grant and/or Federal Direct Loans. Students desiring to receive financial aid for the Summer Freshman Academy must complete the 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To avoid delays, it is suggested that you apply no later than May 30, 2012. Livingstone College’s school code is 002942.
